Letter to Larry Comensky

In our Beloved Jewish faith, the congregational representative who chants the prayers for the congregation is considered “The Shliach Tzibor” – the one who lifts the prayers of the congregation to Heaven. For 25 years Larry Comensky has been our “Shliach Tzibor,” ever inspiring us by chanting the prayers with a sincere and deep passion of heart, mind and soul. Invariably, Larry’s singing touched the inner sphere of the souls of everyone in the congregation. With his beautiful and spiritual intonation of our Jewish prayers, Larry has always lifted our prayers to heaven.

I wish to thank Larry and his beloved helpmate, Faith, for gracing my life, the life of my beloved Erika, of Blessed memory, and all our lives in such a prayerful and inspirational way. Larry Comensky’s chanting of our sacred melodies will ever resonate in our hearts, minds and souls for Eternal Blessing.

Wishing Larry and Faith a future of good health, happiness and peace, I am with love, admiration and deepest respect, always --

Rabbi Dr. Jay B. Goldburg

Letter from Our President
When Moses broke the first set of tablets in anger, they could not be repaired. So it is with our lives. Anger leaves no room for repair.

Moses spent 40 days asking repentance (teshuvah), and he received a second set of tablets. We learn from this, that anger is swift and that which is broken in anger may not be repairable. However, though it may take much longer to build than it took to destroy, repentance can rebuild our lives, our relationships, and our marriages.

Can B’nai Torah help with this healing process? Yes! For the past 25+ years we have concluded each Friday Night Service with our families holding hands and embracing one another as Larry asked Hashem to bestow His blessings. What better time to look into each other’s eyes and say, “Please forgive my anger – I love you.”

Similarly, at the conclusion of each beautiful service led by Rabbi Dale Schreiber, she asks us to embrace as she prays to Hashem to bestow his blessings upon us. We each need to think about what we feel during this experience, and we need to nurture that feeling and carry it into our homes, and keep it in our hearts.

When two parties are angry, it takes both parties to ask forgiveness. This is not easy to do; but our Torah teaches us that it can be done. I thank Hashem for providing this insight, and I pray to Him that all our members and former members who experience anger in their lives, take the time needed to reconcile and rebuild that which their anger has destroyed.
Shalom,
Jack

Have you looked at www.BnaiTorahStChas.com lately?

My mother, Fannie Cohen, always said,
“It doesn't cost anything to say THANK YOU.”

Thank you Richard Bennett for your generous donation to B’nai Torah. We appreciate your kindness, and more so, love to have you attend and participate in our Services. Your enjoyment and celebration of Shabbos is beautiful to observe.

Thank you Jeremy Karp for shoveling our parking lot for our Open House. This was truly an act of loving kindness, as you just did it without asking anyone, and on your own. You are the future of Judaism in St. Charles County, and we are proud of you.

Thanks to all who participated in preparing for our Holocaust Torah Restoration Celebration on Saturday morning 12/11 and for the Open House on 12/12. The preparation of the sanctuary and building, fabricating a portable Chupah, the coordination, invitations, menu planning, picking up the food from Simon Kohns and Pratzels Bakery, and the clean-up after each event, took lots of help and lots of time.
We had almost 60 people attend on Saturday, and the comments were all praiseworthy for Rabbi Schreiber’s Service, and for her accompanist singer/guitar player, Andrew Bollinger. Our guests from Shaare Emeth and the Federation, as well as those from the Mormon, Episcopalian, Catholic, and other Faith Communities were all enthusiastic about B’nai Torah, our Rabbi, the Torah Processions, the Spiritual environment, and the great food. (I gave Lenny Kohn a big hug and thanked him for the beautiful trays he prepared for us--- cream cheese and lox spreads in the shape of Jewish Stars, etc.)

Thank you Rabbi Dale Schreiber for the book you donated to our B’nai Torah Judaic Library about the Czechoslovakian Torahs. This book was checked out the very same day by Deborah Wodraska, the cousin of the Czechoslovakian Jew killed by the Nazis.

Tributes may be sent for happy occasions, remembrances, memorials, Jewish Holidays, or just to say “Thank You.” Please send your tribute and donation made out to B’nai Torah to: Laura Cohen, 202 Goldeneye Court, St. Peters, MO 63376.
During our January 14th Service,

Treasurer Wanted
Please note that we are still looking for a Treasurer. This task has been automated by Myra and Lenny Baer, using Quicken Software. This is a good opportunity for someone to increase their software knowledge, and add an important skill to their resume. A computer can be provided.

Lenny and Myra will provide as much coaching and training as necessary, and they will be available to assist and answer any questions once the responsibility is transferred.

Please contact our Nominating Committee Chairperson, Madi Brown at
(636) 227-3699 if you wish to fill this position. You are also welcome to call Myra and Lenny at (636) 978-6972 to discuss the responsibilities with them.
